Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. Dear SLO City Council members, I am writing to suggest strongly that you rescind immediately this ‘doubling’ of the downtown parking fees. Just when you think that the City can do nothing more to discourage the public to visit the downtown...................then something like this happens. I am a 1978 graduate of Cal Poly (as was my father and one of my daughters), and I have lived in SLO County for fifty years, with most of it being in the city of San Luis Obispo. I moved out over 20 years ago over quality of life issues, and I have watched as one by one, almost all of my friends, relatives, and acquaintances have done the same. Some have moved to Atascadero, some to Cayucos, some to Los Osos, and some out of the County. Every single one of them would have the same exact observations, ‘It is not the same SLO I remember and loved. The city has made every single planning decision incorrectly, and in the process, has now destroyed the city we loved so greatly’. The traffic that your decisions have engendered is hurting all of us, and it’s time you recognized the folly of some of these decisions. If it isn’t the densification of the City (with infrastructure always falling at least ten years behind the impacts that are so carelessly created), the continual approval of insanely dense housing projects, the over-emphasis of bicycle culture to the detriment of once pristine local neighborhoods, to increasing height allowances in the downtown area, to continual incorrect decision making.................it just never seems to stop. If I see one more ugly, black Stalworks architectural abomination erected, I think I’m going to pass out. What happened to the ARC and protecting SLO’s once proud architectural pedigree...? Every good thing seems to have been abandoned..........................and now you’ve gone and DOUBLED the parking fees? No more free nights? No more free Sundays??? This is madness. Do you even for a minute ever think of the struggling downtown business people, and what this ridiculous new policy is doing to their businesses, employees, and customers? In case you aren’t listening, the uproar over this policy is deafening and increasing. This dis-connection between the City Council decisions and basic common sense.................has to stop, and be rethought. Please start by returning the parking fee structure to something more normalized, before you drive the final nail into the coffin of what was once seen as the best city in America. Sincerely, Jeff Chamberlain Los Osos, CA 1
