City Council,
Please stop the ridiculously overcharging for parking in our quaint downtown. It is
literally ruining the charm, usability and has made it a very undesirable place to visit.
I am a long time local mom to a toddler and I am pregnant - I don’t have the means or the
ability to bike downtown—which is what I know some of these policies are trying to
encourage. I also live on the outskirts of town and have to drive. I would love to support
more small businesses but the reality of my life has made it so I will go elsewhere where
the parking is free and ample. It’s a tragedy that so many locals feel the exact same way I
do. I’m even signed up for the park local program but I can only use one parking structure
for any hour. How about all parking structures for 2 hours? Maybe adding actual
incentives that show you care about your locals and small businesses would actually help
downtown thrive.
It makes me incredibly sad to see so many vacancies and the new parking policies are no
doubt a correlation. Also, as a local artist, please think about utilizing the empty
storefronts as free artist studios. That’s how you can add liveliness and generate more foot
traffic downtown. They are doing that exact thing in

space.html
Overall, the parking plans that have been implemented are quite ruining downtown San
Luis Obispo. Please change this as soon as you can so we don’t continue to have more local
institutions close their doors and make SLO a ghost town.
Sincerely,
Molly Paulick
