Box 15736 San Luis Obispo, CA. 93406 th October 28, 2023 City of San Luis Obispo Attn: Mayor and City Council 990 Palm Street San Luis Obispo, CA 93401 Ref. referring the parking and bike lanes Dear Council members I am aware you have been very involved in the push for bike lanes on our town, the parking issues, removing streets, changing intersections etc as council member. Your votes on the downtown have changed San Luis Obispo so much as I simply don’t recognize it anymore; it’s beyond words to describe what I’m witnessed in the last 6 years. Sorry but I am not trying to put you in a position to feel uncomfortable but as a resident of 45 years living here nothing changed more to see our 1 town suffer as bad as it is right now; these changes are absolutely awful. To make this simple instead of writing a 10-page letter on how I really feel about the downtown I am going to making the following suggestions because the talk of the town are these ten recommendations: I am requesting the following to save our downtown: 1. Reverse engineer all the bike lanes downtown such as Monterey, Higuera, Marsh street etc 2. Bring the 3rd lanes back on Marsh, Higuera including Pismo street (the 2nd lane back), all are impacting the downtown business 3. Stop the South Higuera project; we don’t need 4 lanes going to 2 lanes, it’s bad for business period, halt this project immediately. 4. Put money aside for building back our roads from these senseless bike lanes and streets that were taken away from us. 5. Bring back the parking meters that were replaced with the Kiosk machines 6. Reverse some of the widen sidewalks that's taken away parking 7. Reverse engineer Garden street downtown, we need the 2 lanes again on that street. 8. Halt the parking garage project under construction now on Nipomo as this land could be better use for something (because fixing the following you won’t need $57 million to fix the parking problem that was taken away from us) 2 9. Fix Monterey street from the SLO Chamber to Giuseppe’s restaurant, there is only 2 parking spaces when there used to be 18. It makes no sense with the 2 parklets and the artwork etc that doesn’t get used for anything including the bike lane) 10. Tell Rob Rossi he shouldn’t take The Creamy parking lot away from the businesses that need that parking zone. What has happened on to our parking, roads etc wasn’t a problem before such as putting bike lanes where there were already bike lanes for example, the saying if it’s not broken don’t fix it. Yet this city administration has done just that and it's really impacting all of us right now. Bicycles are not going to save this town, we survive on vehicles and trying to abandon cars for bicycles is just plan ridiculous. Please accept my letter as to the point, I don’t like what this city council has done to San Luis Obispo, one party one rule, we need representation not party affiliated politics on our town to dictate how we’re supposed to live our lives here, it’s simply not fair. I am not a temporary Cal Poly Cuesta College voter, I have been a resident since 1978 and I would like to save this town back to some common sense please. Thank you Scott Marcotte 3
