Dear City Council,
My name is Annalisa Torres and I'm a student at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo as well as a
member of the Cal Poly Urbanists club (CPU). I am writing to express my strong opposition to the purchase of 1166
Higuera St. and the proposed addition of a parking lot in our community. However if you do decide to proceed with the
purchase, I strongly advocate for the development of a park in the designated area in place of a parking lot.
Parks play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for residents by providing green spaces for recreational activities,
fostering community engagement, and contributing to the overall well-being of our neighborhood. By prioritizing a park
over a parking lot, we have the opportunity to create a more vibrant and sustainable community for current and future
generations.
Moreover, parks contribute to environmental sustainability, providing a valuable space for trees and plants that improve
air quality, mitigate heat, and support local biodiversity. A well-designed park can also become a focal point for
community events and gatherings, fostering a sense of belonging and camaraderie among residents.
I understand the importance of addressing parking concerns, but I believe there are alternative solutions that can be
explored, such as improving public transportation, implementing smart parking systems, or designating existing spaces
for parking.
I kindly urge you and the rest of the City Council to reconsider the decision in favor of a parking lot and instead invest in
the creation of a park that will benefit our community in numerous ways.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing about the decisions made regarding this matter.
Sincerely,
Annalisa Torres
