Subject: Tuesday July 15, 2014 City Council Meeting agenda - Dredging Laguna Lake
For the Tuesday, July 15, 2014 City Council Meeting agenda item on the dredging of Laguna Lake.
Distinguished Members of the San Luis Obispo City Council,
The Laguna Model Yacht Club encourages the San Luis Obispo City Council to plan for the dredging of
Laguna Lake.
The lake's present state has highlighted the need for action that will ensure that Laguna Lake continues to be
one of the premier recreational areas on our central coast. Laguna Lake attracts visitors from near and far.
The Laguna Lake Model Yacht Club ( http: / /llmyc.org_/ ) has a ten year history of sailing at Laguna Lake.
We have hosted regattas at Laguna Lake for the San Diego and Bakersfield model yacht clubs.

The Laguna Lake Model Yacht Club meets
every Tuesday and Thursday morning to
race their boats, which are ti25th scale
replicas of the America's Cup boats that
sailed in the `60s. The stock sloops belong
to the CR 914 class of boats, with rules that
ensure every boat is identical so that
tactics and piloting skills acre the critical
factors during races.

Our sailors come from all over the county to sail at Laguna Lake on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. We are
pleased that Laguna Lake users stop to observe and enjoy what we are doing. The children and seniors we talk
to come from all parts of California and United States. They consistently say they that Laguna Lake is one of
their favorite San Luis Obispo destinations. It is very rewarding to share our hobby with so many, especially
when visitors return and they mention how the sailboats add to the ambiance that brings them to Laguna
Lake. Biology classes from Cal Poly frequent our sailing area. The Cal Poly Concrete Boat Club is a lake user
as are many individuals who enjoy rowing.
We also recommend revisiting the possibility of raising the outlet of Laguna Lake near Madonna Road so that
the take will hold a sufficient amount of water to sustain its use during times when rainfall is not plentiful.
Thank you for your consideration,
Howard Grisham
