Subject: Laguna Lake Natural Reserve Conservation Plan
Yes we are Laguna Lake residents, but please read on. Before this house we owned another house in SLO in
the 90's. At that time we loved and used the lake regularly. Among other reasons regarding this wonderful city,
Laguna Lake was one of the main reasons we decided to retire here. How many cities in California have their
own lake within the city limits? Living so near the lake makes us think every day what a shame that the city of
SLO is not trying everything in their power to preserve a very unique lake. Or at least, so it seems. We have
attended several of the info meetings and put our "priority dots" on the poster provided by the persons running
the meeting, but so far, we have not seen any actual action to save the lake. One of the environmental concerns,
according to one study of why they can't dredge the lake, was the potential Steel -head trout population. Where
are these Steel -head now that the lake has dried up? The lake is an important fly way for numerous birds.
A few months ago we watched a helicopter take on a load water to put out a brush fire, this was, of course,
before the lake dried up. We were used to watching numerous people use the lake for recreation. We have
heard of a possible assessment for those living close to the lake that would help provide monies for lake
upkeep. We are more than willing to participate in that action.
In conclusion, it just seems a total shame to let this lake go, please do what you can to save it.
Sincerely,
Bob and Linda Collins
