Dear Commissioners,
I am excited to see the proposed 10-unit apartment building at 460 Pacific and I urge you not to recommend any
changes that would delay construction or reduce the number of units available. I live a few blocks away and walk past
this property often. This is a great neighborhood to add denser, taller multifamily rental housing and I think the
proposed building looks just fine. I really don't give a damn if the architectural style is mid-century, craftsman, or
brutalism, as long as it adds to the supply of desperately needed rental housing in our city.
While I appreciate your expertise and service, I don't understand why the City requires discretionary review of small
multifamily residential buildings like this one, rather than implementing streamlined objective standards that could be
approved ministerially. This discretionary review process makes it slower and more expensive to build much-needed
rental housing in SLO and contributes to the rental shortage which makes it difficult for renters like me to live here long-
term.
