Regarding: Agenda Item 7A, December 5, 2023 Council Meeting
My name is Laura Albers, I am a resident of the City of San Luis Obispo, and have lived here since
2002.
As a firm proponent of our city’s goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and reach carbon
neutrality by 2035, I am calling on the Council to explore all options to reduce emissions from existing
buildings.
From the Dec. 5, 2023 Council Agenda Report, item 7a, it’s clear that decarbonizing existing buildings
is crucial to meeting those goals. Consequently, the city must explore all the options available that will
lead to effective and efficient progress in decarbonizing existing buildings. Having electrified, clean
energy powered buildings will only serve to improve the health and safety of all SLO residents.
I fully support the near term development of an electrification for additions and renovations policy. I
also ask that you move forward with creating and evaluating staff-proposed existing building
decarbonization policies and programs that can be returned to the council for consideration within a
year.
Thank you for your time, and for all of your efforts in making SLO a sustainable city.
Laura
