Subject: Laguna Lake
Mayor Marx, Honorable City Council: I am remiss in not having spent any time at prior
meetings on the subject of Laguna Lake, and in only having had time to skim the staff report for
this evening's discussion.
However, lack of preparation or knowledge has never stopped me from developing an opinion!
I will be at the CC meeting this evening, and will speak to the need to preserve this open space,
to make it accessible to residents and visitors alike, to promote tourism and to develop revenue
sources to maintain it - and the nexus between these goals and the possibility of development
of camping opportunities on some portion of the site. This could include tent and /or RV spaces.
Without specific action, on June 11 the Planning Commission left the door open for future
discussion of commercial activities within the park. While that was directed more at the
development of concessions, I believe that the discussion could be expanded to include the role
of camping in the park.
