Subject: Laguna Lake Dredging
Laguna Lake is a precious asset for this community. People used to sail, kayak, kite board , and sailboard on the lake
quite frequently.
Over the last decade all of that activity has pretty much disappeared.
I've seen an dramatic decrease in the variety of wild life we see around the lake and the algae blooms and dead fish have
become more common.
Having a lake and wildlife preserve in our city is part of what makes this area so beautiful which helps with tourism. I
have attended many meetings over the years, including City Council meetings, and I have heard people say how
important it is to dredge the lake- yet nothing has ever been done. Reports have been written and discussed, but it goes
no further. Right now as I write this Laguna Lake is more of a mud flat than lake- It would be awesome if we could take
advantage of the current low levels of the lake to begin dredging at a lower cost.
Also, just recently helicopters have used the lake as a resource to stop
fires- another reason to keep some water in there.
