Council Members,
Within the last month, my family and I moved into 1143 Vista Del Lago. My wife and I attended CalPoly 1996 -2003 and I
told her as we were driving away that we would return! Both my parents graduated CalPoly in 1969. My dad attended
Mission Prep and my mom attended SLO High. Both of their parents lived in the area for quite some time. I like to think
I have SLO in my blood!!
Thank you so much for your unanimous approval to move forward with Laguna Lake restoration! I recognize the
approval is only the first step and much work remains to turn this plan into reality. I attended the meeting last night and
left with two questions:
While everyone is onboard with doing something, is the ultimate objective clear? I heard the details in regards
to trails and observation deck. However, how deep is the lake envisioned to be? At what range of elevation
shall the surface be maintained? What water quality is desired? I'm sure there are many other features that
define the ultimate objective.
2. There was an estimate that an assessment paid by those near the lake could generate $400k per year. No other
detail was provided. What assumptions went into that estimate? How many homeowners and what fee were
assumed? How far from the lake would the region need to stretch to meet the assumed number of
homeowners?
In regards to the remaining work, I'd definitely be interested in volunteering to help! Where should I look to find
opportunities?
Best Regards,
Mike Allwein
