Stew & Saro :
I wanted to touch base with you both regarding the e-mail below . I have no direction or authority from the City Counci l
regarding any action other than final adoption of the overnight camping parking regulation . However, I want to ensur e
that they have the best information available to them as they consider final adoption on October 2, 2012 . Can one o r
both of you give me any indication as to whether you would be willing to extend the current application of SLMC 9 .1 8
beyond January 1, 2013 if the Council wished to consider alternatives? I'd appreciate it if you could let me know on e
way or another prior to next week's Council meeting so that I can convey that information to Council in a meaningfu l
time frame . Thank you .
Best ,
Christin e

Subject :Extend Court Deadline?

The SLO County homeless situation, for the residents in our cities and the County, needs some creative solutions . Many volunteers ar e
thinking and working on this .
SLO City is being forced to rush things, based on a judges decision agreed to by the two parties, without giving the larger communit y
a chance to participate .
The agreement is short-circuiting an opportunity to deal with the problem in an integrated way .
I had never spoken with Mr . Jenkins until after the City Council voted to pass the ordinance last Tuesday . I introduced myself in th e
Hallway . I asked him if he would consider going WITH the City to speak with the Judge, asking the Judge to allow for a 6-mont h
extension of the deadline to allow for creative solutions to be discussed. Mr . Jenkins did not say no . He did say that no one from th e
City had approached him . While there is no guarantee that he would cooperate ,
WILL THE CITY TRY ?

Marty
