Dear Mayor & City Council Members:
As a long time permanent resident of the Alta Vista Neighborhood, I would hope common sense would prevail
by supporting the SLOPD’s request for the expansion of the safety enhancement time frame for both St.
Fratty’s Day & Halloween! These are two (2) holidays that neighborhoods near Cal Poly dread. Cal Poly
needs to work with the City & not encourage their students to party in our neighborhoods by passing out treat
bags with food items (so they don't drink on an empty stomach) & condoms (have safe sex)! & the City needs
to step up their tolerance level & protect neighborhoods!
I have 18 students that live next door to me & we co-exist very well. Each year we remind them that they have
chosen to live in a residential neighborhood & most of them respect that. In the case of Halloween & St.
Fratty’s Day, they need a reminder that excessive partying (climbing telephone poles, states of dress &
undress, vomiting & peeing in the streets) is not an acceptable practice.
Please support the SLOPD’s request to expand the safety enhancement zones in order to make their job as
effective as possible. We all need to work together but rules & reminders need to be in place to protect the
overall population of both residents & their student neighbors.
Thank you, Karen Adler - Chairperson AVNA
