Honorable Mayor and Council,
I fully support the requested amendment to the Municipal Code - Safety Enhancement Zones. I
appreciate the effort that the City PD has made in advance of these "fun" events to communicate
expectations. I also understand how difficult it is to fully know how these events will unfold. The City's
system of "Calls for service", "Noise calls" and resultant warnings, citations and fines seem to make
rational sense, but I'm not sure how effective it is for such massive uncontrolled gatherings.
I believe that this proposed amendment is a necessary move, but that there are likely other
supplemental strategies that may be put in place. Students and young people in general have the
right to have fun, as do their longer term neighbors, but this fun must be respectful and thoughtful.
