Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. Hello City Council Members, Before turning left onto Broad Street, you must inch your vehicle closer and closer to the street – almost out into it – because parked cars limit your view and you are dealing with on-coming vehicles moving well-above the too high speed limit. Now, in this precarious position, you must look left, look right, look left anew, for perhaps five full minutes until it appears that you are safe to turn into the middle lane. But danger lurks still. Cars may be moving into that lane in order to turn left onto another street. Sometimes, can you imagine this, those drivers fail to turn on their blinkers to indicate such movement. Disasters waiting to happen. Anxiety aplenty. Consider the above with regards to children trying to bike to school. Whatever statistics may exist concerning traffic flow, numbers of vehicles, and accidents on the Broad Street corridor, they cannot account for the fear of dealing with turning left from a host of streets. This is the time for action. At the very least, a new stoplight needs to be placed somewhere between Orcutt and Santa Barbara Streets. Also, the speed limit needs to be reduced on this busy thorough fare. Doing this will benefit many citizens while also anticipating additional traffic in future years because of burgeoning housing projects to the south. Thank you for your concern, and more importantly, action on the Broad Street Corridor. Sincerely, George Cotkin 557 Stoneridge Dr. 1
