I understand that this topic will be discussed at the up -coming City Council meeting. I have lived in San Luis Obispo for 15 years and over that time I have used Broad Street between Orcutt and South Street frequently because it is very convenient. But, almost every time I do I feel like I am taking my life into my hands. Although I have become accustomed to it, it is still scary. For the past several years I have had a recurring weekly event at the Guild Hall, not far from the intersection of Broad Street with Orcutt Road. It is not a long trip back to my home, but my route requires me to make a left turn onto Orcutt Road. I emerge at Mutsuhito Ave. and look for a chance to get across to the southbound lanes. Sometimes there is a nice gap, but more often I have to work my way over one lane at a time. Then as soon as I have reached the closest southbound lane I must immediately move back to the left to enter the left turn lanes for Orcutt Road. It seems rather futile, but I believe it is the legal way to do it. I often wish there was an officer I could ask. It is much easier not to get all the way over, but to stay in the oncoming turn lane (assuming there is no oncoming traffic) and you are lined up for the left turn lane in a split second. Neither option seems completely safe. And luckily, the event is at a slow time for traffic. But I believe that the usage of this highway is only going to become higher in the near future. There really needs to be a change to the way this traffic artery is organized. Thank you for addressing this important issue at your meeting. Cynthia A. Gaulin 2404 Augusta Street, San Luis Obispo, CA
