Subject:Allocate funding to update the Broad Street Corridor Plan

To Whom it May Concern,
A South Broad Street Area Plan was adopted in December 2014
(www.slocity.org/home/showpublisheddocument/5019/635563068397670000). Some of the plan
has been implemented, however, none of the plan regarding Broad Street or the bike/pedestrian access over the train
tracks has been addressed.
In addition, in the last 10 years at least 355 housing units have been added to the area and traffic has increased
dramatically!
• The center turn lane is open for turns at every intersection, making for very unsafe driving. This
lane is often used as an unlawful travel lane. This is the only option to make a left turn out of the StoneRidge and
Rockview neighborhoods!
• Traffic needs to be calmed on Broad Street. It is treated as a highway, not a city street, making it
nearly impossible to make left turns safely. Perhaps round-abouts, meridians, lower speeds, and additional traffic lights
would help.
• There is limited visibility at the intersections caused partially by parking, making it unsafe for
drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians.
• With the current speed limit, lack of crosswalks and increased travel on the street, it is not safe for children to ride to
school or for residents to go to a park.
We are asking the City Council to allocate available funding to update the Broad Street Corridor Plan.
Your neighbor,
Samantha Justesen Cottle
