Dear San Luis Obispo City Council Members,
I have lived in the Stoneridge neighborhood for over 10 years and I not made a le?hand turn on Broad Street without fearing for my life. And making a righthand
turn is only marginally safer.
There are several reasons for this. Although it may be inconvenient, those who live on the streets south of us are able to access the South Street intersec?on to
make a le? turn on to Broad Street. However for us, that is not an op?on. In addi?on, the traffic on Broad Street con?nues to increase significantly making it
increasingly difficult to turn le? with any sense of safety.
The center turn lane is o?en more dangerous than helpful drivers o?en pull in at the same ?me going in opposite direc?on or use it as a passing lane. In
addi?ons parked cars on Broad Street can serious block our view block the street. And then there is the speed of drivers on that stretch of street. It is not a safe
corridor for cars and certainly not for cyclists or walkers.
Not only do these impounding dangers create unnecessary anxiety, they also are isola?ng. I believe the city of San Luis Obispo has a strong sense of community
wellbeing and hopefully supports steps to create and support that where needed.
Our en?re neighborhood and I believe all people would appreciate a serious effort to address this issue with traffic calming measures including a stoplight.
Thank you very much for your considera?on and a?en?on to this concern.
Sincerely,,
Karen Aydelo?
