Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. Hello Mayor Stewart and Councilmembers Francis, Marx, Pease, and Shoresman, I'm writing to you today to express my strong support of the South Broad Street Area Plan as adopted in 2014 in Resolution No. 10586. Given SLO City Council is discussing how to use some unallocated funds that have become available for their mid-year budget review, I petition that the South Broad Street Area Plan be executed. I live on Stoneridge Drive and use all modes of transportation in the area (bike, walk, and drive). We all know that SLO is growing and that the traffic is increasing. While understanding that growth is inevitable (and welcomed) I'd like to highlight that for pedestrians and bicyclists, their safety is becoming questionable along the busy corridor. Due to the lack of traffic lights, it becomes very difficult to execute a left turn out of the west neighborhoods from streets such as Mitchell, Lawrence, Stonebridge, Sweeny, etc onto northbound Broad street. This is difficult for an automobile, and outright hazardous for a bicyclist. I often find that I end up taking my bike onto the sidewalk which is not ideal. The pedestrian crosswalk at Woodbridge is welcomed and does help, but there is a long distance between Orcutt and Woodbridge. Similarly, it is hazardous for a bicyclist to make a left turn from southbound Broad to eastbound Orcutt on account of the many lanes of automobile traffic. As more housing gets built along the corridor, we should preemptively make sure that all of the residents in the area enjoy the ability to walk and bike around our beautiful town in a safe way. Thanks for your consideration, Trevor Brumm 415-876-8795 1
