Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. Esteemed SLO City Council Members, I relocated during the pandemic to the South Hills/Rockview/Stoneridge neighborhood a little over 3 years ago, and have observed Broad Street getting busier, faster and more dangerous for vehicles, bikes and pedestrians to navigate. I am aware of the pedestrian death back in 2021 and have witnessed fender benders at high speed! The light at Woodbridge has helped but there still is a need for a pedestrian bridge over Broad to facilitate safe passage to the other side of the street! My key interest is in the safety aspects as p ersonally, I walk and ride a bike whenever possible and find the task to cross Broad Street daunting as our little area of town has mushroomed over the years. My neighbors include families with pets and children in strollers, seniors, and individuals who rely on a wheelchair or walker to get around. Let's get real! Broad Street is a multi-use Highway thoroughfare with a scary turn lane (once you can get there!) with bike lanes on each side. Often, at high density - peak traffic times I'll make a right turn from Stoneridge, Perkins or Sweeney and exit Broad into the parking lot of Cool Cat Cafe at Orcutt, simply to utilize the signal light so I may make a stress less left turn to head downtown. 1 This letter is simply to ask the council to review the South Broad St Area Plan and allocate funds to update this Plan with the aim to get traffic calmed and implement safety measures for cars, bikes and pedestrians in the near future. Help us to SLOW our ROLL through SLO so we may co-exist more peaceably in our little slice of paradise. Thank you all for your kind consideration!
