Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. Dear Mayor Stewart and Councilmembers Francis, Marx, Pease, and Shoresman, I am writing to urge you to prioritize unallocated funds during the mid-year budget review to begin the process of implementing the circulation improvements along the full length of Broad Street from Upham to Tank Farm Road as envisioned in the South Broad Street Area Plan. While so much of the plan has been implemented along Victoria Street, Broad Street has been neglected and is dangerous to navigate in a car, as a pedestrian, and as a bicyclist. Our family lives on Rockview Place. To say it is difficult to exit our neighborhood is an understatement. Whether you use Stoneridge, Perkins, Sweeny, or Rockview, a left-hand turn is dangerous if not impossible most of the time. Our 15 year-old daughter will be getting her drivers license soon, but the thought of her navigating Broad Street on a daily basis terrifies me. We also bicycle as much as we can, aligning with SLO City's General Plan to encourage alternative forms of transportation to achieve the city's climate goals. However, as noted in the Area Plan "only the most determined pedestrians and cyclists can cross Broad Street." We want to cycle more. We want to support local businesses by walking to Taste!, Duncan Alley market, and baseball games at Shisheimer Park. But Broad Street is a formidable and dangerous barrier. Please allocate funds to get this process started by hiring the necessary engineers and support staff to get the planning started. With the implementation of the South Broad Street Area Plan can be safer and be a more attractive entrance to San Luis Obispo. Thank you for your consideration of this important matter.
