To The Mayor and City Council :
I planned to speak to night on the above Agenda item .
It is my feeling that the SLO Brewing project on Higuera St be delayed or rejected in it s
current plan .
1.The City does not need a nightclub in the middle of the downtown with all the shoppin g
and restaurants . A project like the one proposed should be on one end of town or the other .
2.I am especially concerned about the traffic, noise, and drinking in a block that alread y
has so many restaurant/bars .
3.Having the musicians etc park on Monterey and having to carry the instrument s
in town to the SLO Brewing either through Mission or on Higuera will cause disruption .
4.The Mission Plaza is a CITY LANDMARK FOR ALL OF US . To create a que of people lining up for a
show, going up stairs, leaving their garbage in the creek or around the area to me is distressing . Many peopl e
come to sit around the benches and enjoy the ambiance with their families, or for us locals to find a little peac e
of tranquility and nature, is going to be forever changed if the plans that SLO Brewing has are implemented .
i
5.I have seen the disruption of Garden Street and the alley when there are shows a t
SLO Brewing . People can be very loud and when the college kids are lined up they can actually be come quit e
rude .
6.I understand that progress and change is a part of life, but the pendulum of change to the downtown i s
quickly changing from a charming city to one that will end up looking like so many other places . All night life ,
bars, and restaurants with scattered shops . Those shops may close as many people will not want to come to th e
downtown except at night .
7.I believe there is a balance. Tourist dollars are important . But, so is the quality of life for it s
citizens . Putting a restaurant/bar/ night club with big entertainment in the middle of the downtown, on a majo r
street with use of the Mission Plaza-Mission Walk is WRONG .
I don't believe that the developer has thought this through even though they say they will have security peopl e
etc . It is in their best interest to have this project . IS IT IN THE BEST INTEREST OF TH E
COMMUNITY???????
I hope you will side with the Save the Downtown and reconsider this project .
