Dear SLO City Coucil,
Due to child care restrictions, I regretfully may not be able to make it to the council meeting this evening but wanted to
make sure to stress to you the impact this grant had on some of our marginalized members of the community.
Certified Auto Repair was fortunate to have received a $10,000 DEI grant to help clients who depend on their
vehicles but otherwise could not afford to pay for necessary repairs or services.
To date, we have reached just over the half way mark of the program and we have used all but about $300 of the $10k
to service vehicles for a total of 17 client families. These folks came from all walks of life, but the two things they all had
in common were that they depended on their vehicles and were not able to afford to pay for their repairs.
This would not have been possible without the help of our partner non profit, Jewish Family Services of SLO. JFS was
responsible for screening the many applicants to make sure the people we helped were truly in need and not taking
advantage of the system. JFS was also instrumental in being a liaison between the shop and the clients and going over
the program details, such as the $800 cap we set per client in order to help as many people as possible.
The program was not without challenges but in general, we feel that we were a big help to many marginalized members
of the community and would love to see this continue into the future. The only thing we would alter if given the option
is for more funds to be available so we can help more people and perform more of the necessary work to their vehicles.
We greatly appreciate the opportunity to be of service to our community and welcome any other way in which we can
serve.
