Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. Dear Council Members, I'll just cut straight to the chase. San Luis Obispo's housing market is significantly impacted by the need for student housing due mainly to Cal Poly students- yes there is demand from Cuesta College as well but not near the demand created by Cal Poly. The City need to focus on Cal Poly and their housing goals on campus and work through whatever means possible- Cal Poly administration, CSU Chancellor's Office, and State elected officials, to get housing built on campus. That is not an easy task. I get it. But if you are serious about lowering housing costs to the "workforce" then the only way to bring housing costs down- both rental and purchase, is to lessen the demand from an ever growing Cal Poly student population. You can built it taller, smaller, and denser all you want but if Cal Poly continues to increase enrollment from anywhere 300-400 students per year according to Cal Poly's VP for Strategic Enrollment Management Terrance Harris you can readily see how housing demand in the community impacted. That's a lot of units in the community that Cal Poly students will "take up". It's the students. And you've got to address that. Sincerely, Brett Cross San Luis Obispo 1
