Dear Members of the Council,
I am emailing in consideration of the abolishment of required parking minimums. Required parking minimums
are unnecessary additions to zoning codes that force businesses and other developments to meet a minimum that may
not be necessary or desirable. The following points outline the downside.
- Parking minimums require developers to build parking when otherwise not needed, increasing the cost to build and
reducing the amount of space for desirable areas.
- Parking minimums are not required for the benefit of businesses, as businesses will be better able to assess their
demand for parking. Additionally, if parking is left to be determined by the developers the amount of spaces built will be
better able to suit the time and need of the specific business.
Thank you,
-Dylan Tawata
