Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. Dear Councilmembers, Please continue to explore all options to bring down rental and home prices in the City, including streamlining the building process, increasing housing production, implementing renter protections, and ensuring that landlords comply with state housing laws. As a national leader in housing prices, the City should strive to be a leader in finding innovative ways to increase housing production and affordability! I believe the City should focus on incentivizing denser multifamily housing of all types and sizes in neighborhoods that don't require reliance on cars, including housing that is at least less luxurious, if not quite "affordable," by design. One housing type that I don't think made it into your staff report is the four-story microunit that was found to be an affordable by design option for central SLO County in the 2023 SLOCOG study. As someone who has previously lived in a small studio apartment, I think this could be a great option for younger people who want to live in a walkable neighborhood and are willing to sacrifice unit size for affordability. -Myles Couch 1
