WHEREAS, the City of San Luis Obispo recognizes the positive impact volunteers have on our
neighborhoods, schools, non-profit and community-based organizations, community and civic groups,
and faith-based organizations, and government agencies; and
WHEREAS, volunteers are invaluable resources who freely and willingly offer they hearts and hands
to better our city, state, and nation; and
WHEREAS, with shifting needs and priorities across different sectors, volunteers are at the heart of
the San Luis Obispo community and plant seeds of hope that tomorrow will produce a bountiful harvest
for good things to come; and
WHEREAS, volunteers help the City of San Luis Obispo provide public services, support, assistance, and
create environments of empowerment for those who have been marginalized; and
WHEREAS, in contributing to our community, volunteers advance the work of purpose-driven
organizations in the arts, philanthropy, historical preservation, civic engagement, business, education,
and environmental efforts; these individual acts improve the lives of all who call the Central Coast home
and all who visit our beautiful city; volunteers demonstrate their power to make a difference and are
an inspiration for many to follow; and
WHEREAS, the City of San Luis Obispo recognizes that community volunteers are key to assisting the
City’s ability to meet the needs of our diverse and growing population while progressing Major City
Goals; we acknowledge that volunteers help light win over darkness, unity to defeat division, and
connection to heal loneliness; and
WHEREAS, during the month of April, we call on all community members and organizations to help us
thank, celebrate, and applaud the contributions of all past, current, and future volunteers.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Erica A. Stewart, Mayor of the City of San Luis Obispo, do hereby proclaim the month
of April 2024 as Volunteer Appreciation Month, and encourage community members of all backgrounds,
ages, and abilities, to follow the example set forth by our neighbors, friends, and family by standing up
to serve and being a part of the solution through service.
