HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-2187 Proclaiming San Blas Nayarit, Mexico the Sister-City of San Luis ObispoRESO,'UTION NO. 2157 (1971 Series) ) A RESOLLhtON PROCLAIMING SAN BIAS, NArARIT, MEXICO THE SISTER -CITY OF SAN LUIS OBISPO. WHEREAS, the City of San Blas, Nayarit, hlexico was the starting point from which Father Serra embarked upon his missionary travels to California approximately 200 years ago; and WHEREAS, the City of San Luis Obispo is the site of one of the missions founded by Father Serra during his trek nearly two centuries ago; and WHEREAS, it is fitting that with the approach of the 200th anniversary of the founding of our local mission, San Luis Obispo de Tolosa, which gave both our city and the county its name, the ties should once again be strengthened between San Blas and San Luis Obispo; and WHEREAS, designation of San Blas as the sister -city of San Luis Obispo would formally acknowledge the link that already binds the two communities and assist both communities in promoting the forthcoming Bicentennial Celebration which will include activities of interest to citizens of both Mexico and the United States. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of San Luis Obispo as follows: 1. The City of San Mas, Nayarit is hereby officially designated as the sister- city of the City of San Luis Obispo during the period from July 1, 1971 through December 31, 1972.. 2. The Bicentennial Committee is hereby authorized to forward a duly executed copy of this resolution to El Presidente de Municipal de San Blas, Nayarit,. Mexico as an: expression of our esteem for the residents of our sister -city to the south. 3. The Bicentennial Committee is requested to explore further the possibility of arranging for some artisans from San Blas to spend some time in the City of San Luis Obispo sometime during the next eighteen months becoming better - versed in American construction techniques so that they can share this Imowiedge with the residents of San Blas. On motion of Councilman Blake, seconded by Councilman Graham, and on the following.roll call vote: AYES: Councilmen Blake, Graham, Miller, Spring and Mayor Schwartz NOES: None ABSENT: None the foregoing Resolution was duly passed and adopSed this 19th day of April, 1971.
