HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-5424 Authorizing Mayor to meet with officials of Salzburg and Vienna to implement Sister City RelationsRESOLUTION NO. 5324 (1984 Series) A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN LUIS OBISPO ENCOURAGING AND AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO MEET WITH AUSTRIAN OFFICIALS IN SALZBURG AND VIENNA TO DISCUSS AND IMPLEMENT SISTER CITY AND OTHER CULTURAL RELATIONS WHEREAS, the annual Mozart Festival in San Luis Obispo is of statewide recognition and has brought about a great interest in San Luis Obispo concerning Salzburg, Austria- -the home of Mozart; and WHEREAS, the City of San Luis Obispo was one of two cities involved in the major Austrian cultural and economic promotion in California called "Austria Salutes California," the purpose of which was to familia- rize Californians with Austrian customs, culture, economic resources, and to promote tour -ism; and WHEREAS, as an outgrowth of this interest, the community of San Luis Obispo desires to promote closer relations between Salzburg and San Luis Obispo through a sister city program; and WHEREAS, a sister city program would further such cultural acti- vities in San Luis Obispo as the Mozart Festival, cultural exchanges between San Luis Obispo and Salzburg, and help to provide a greater mutual understanding of the peoples of these two communities; and WHEREAS, in further promotion of the city's relationship with the city of Salzburg, Austria, the City Council wishes to express its desire that discussions be held to exchange ideas between dignitaries of the City of San Luis Obispo and Salzburg, Austria; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council hereby encourages the Mayor of the City of San Luis Obispo to meet with and develop with the city of Salzburg, Austria, an official sister city relationship with the City of San Luis Obispo; and Page 1 R 5324 Resolution No. 5324 (1984 Series) BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mayor is hereby authorized to deliver a copy of this resolution, along .with the City's greetings and desires for cultural ties, to the City of Salzburg, Austria. On motion of Councilman Settle , seconded by Councilman Griffin and on the following roll call vote: AYES: Councilmembers Settle, Griffin, Dovey, Dunin and Mayor Billig NOES: None ABSENT: None the foregoing Resolution was adopted this 20thday of March, 1984.
