A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SAN LUIS OBISPO
REQUESTING THE LEAGUE OF CALIFORNIA CITIES TO
DEVELOP AND SPONSOR STATE LEGISLATION TO
EXPEDITE THE REMOVAL,AND PROCESSING OF ABANDONED
VEHICLES ON BOTH PUBLIC AND PRIVATE PROPERTY
THROUGHOUT THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA
WHEREAS, the blight on the environment caused by the presence of
abandoned vehicles on both public and private property throughout the
State is a matter of both local and statewide concern; and
WHEREAS, such abandoned vehicles are not only a detriment to the
environment but also infringe upon the rights of citizens throughout the
State to utilize public streets for parking, and such vehicles are also a
public safety concern; and
WHEREAS, the burden placed upon local authorities and private towing
and storage operators due to complex lien sale requirements, lack of
sufficient storage facilities, and lack of available markets to accept
such abandoned vehicles has created a situation which leaves local
authorities with no efficient method to effectively remove and dispose of
such abandoned vehicles;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the San Luis Obispo City Council
hereby requests that the League of California Cities, at its Annual
Convention in October 1986, adopt a policy to develop and sponsor
legislation which will assist local government throughout the State in the
prompt and efficient disposal of abandoned vehicles on both public and
private property.
RESOLVED FURTHER, that the Channel Counties Division of the League of
California Cities be requested to support this proposal and adopt a
similar resolution for consideration by the League of California Cities.
On Motion of Councilman Settle, seconded by Councilwoman Rappa, and on
the following roll call vote:
Ayes: Councilmembers Settle, Rappa, Dovey and Mayor Dunin
Noes: None
Absent: Councilman Griffin
