RECOMMENDATION
Confirm appointment of Ivan Simon to the Human Relations Commission to fill an unschedule d
vacancy, term ending on March 31, 2015 .
DISCUSSIO N
Due to the resignation of Traci Walker there has been an unscheduled vacancy on the Huma n
Relations Commission . Staff posted the notice of unscheduled vacancy in accordance wit h
statutory requirements on June 7, 2012 and posted the vacancy on the City's website .
Council Liaison Subcommittee Members, Vice Mayor Dan Carpenter and Council Member Andre w
Carter, conducted the interviews on July 23, 2012 .Following the interviews, the Subcommitte e
members recommended the appointment of Mr . Simon.

Pursuant . to Government Code Section 54974 (a), notice is being given that an unschedule d
vacancy exists on the Human Relations Committee, as of June 30,2012 .Interested persons
can apply to fill the vacancy until 5 p.m .on July 10, 2012 and the position will be filled on or afte r
July 10, 2012; Eligibility for this, office and infotmation regarding that eligibility can be found b y
calling the City.Clerk% Office at 805-781-7100 .
The Human Relations Commission advises the Council in creating an environment within the
City in which all persons can enjoy equal rights and opportunities regardless of race,religion ,
sex,. national origin, age,physical,mental, sexual orientation or economic status . The
Commission -makes recommendations to the Council or the CAO on how these social concerns
and human needs can best be addressed. The Commission meets the first Wednesday of each
month at 5;00 p .m,
If you are a .resident of the city and a registered voter,you are encouraged to apply.,
Applications may be obtained at the City Clerk's Office, City Hall, 990 Palm Street, or on th e
