Hello
I am a SLO city resident , and cannot attend the May 8 planning commission meeting next week.
I would like to submit a comment on the planned Welcome Home project at Bishop and Johnson that the commission
will be considering.
I am in favor of housing the homeless and providing compassionate effective assistance in a way that will not negatively
impact the surrounding neighborhoods. I was not convinced by the local meeting last week held by the agencies
involved that their plan will be able to do so. Many questions were not directly answered, and although I do not
question the good intentions of those involved, I believe we should be able to see more details of what to expect and
what plans are made to keep the neighborhoods safe. In addition, the project has just come to our attention and
already there is a vote scheduled May 21 by the Supervisors. This does not provide adequate time to hear from those
who will be effected.
I have serious concerns about how the residents of Welcome Home will spend their time, what steps will be taken to
keep local parks and creekbeds safe and clean, as well as traffic and parking issues that are not yet resolved.
I urge the commission to require further due diligence on matters before the vote.
Thank you for your consideration.
Jennifer Martin
