Members of the City Council, Below is my email to our Community Supervisors regarding the proposed Welcome Home Village in our City. We all realize this is a very difficult social issue to deal with but please consider my thoughts below when addressing this project in the future. Thank you for your time and consideration San Luis Obispo County Supervisors, I was able to attend the Welcome Home Village informational meeting the other night at the Renovate Church and became better educated on your project. Though there were informative responses, the panel was vague as to why this site was chosen over others and the lack of neighborhood community stakeholders involved in the process. It was obvious this present site was not the first choice. It appeared that the meeting was a public-check-the-box type of activity as it appeared almost all decisions have been made. This type of process, with limited neighborhood participation, one public informational meeting very late in the process, long term facility success rates, parking, and no long term funding secured seems like a challenge for success. In today's day and age, it is typical to provide thorough and complete disclosure of why options are considered and dropped. It was unclear why the vacate lot on Higuera or closer to the Prado Homeless Services Center was dropped. I realize using the funding is the driving force of the schedule, but getting the word out to the people was very lacking and especially to the receiving neighborhood. To relocate people from one part of the City is not good for those people either and a location near the Prado Homeless Services Center makes a lot more sense. The residents would not have to be relocated to a part of town that they are not familiar with, the Prado Center already has services set up, and access to grocery stores and public transit is better. It is also frustrating to hear about all the services that will be available, sounding like the participants will have better access to services that a lot of us working citizens don’t. For example it’s taking me four months to get in to see my primary care physician and I have good health insurance. Thank you for your time. Sincerely, Patrick Bolger 1
