Dear Commissioners, Please find my letter of concern regarding Agenda Item 5b, GENP-0175-2024 attached and also copied below for your convenience. ___________ Re: Planning Commission Meeting 5/8/2024, Agenda Item 5b Dear Commissioners, I am writing to express my concern regarding Agenda item 5B (GENP-0175-2024) for May 8th, 2024, which is currently on the consent agenda, suggesting that city staff have considered it to be a straightforward “Yes” vote. Our community only last week received notification of the proposed project (“Welcome Home Village”) and many neighbors received no notice at all for unknown reasons. Substantial questions from myself and over 100 other community members regarding the conformity of the project to the City General Plan remain. As such, agenda item 5b is in fact a very controversial decision that should not be passed to meet an external grant budget deadline and the goals of developers who are not community members nor affected by the proposed development beyond their own financial gains. The proposed location is County land but surrounded by residential R1 and R2 housing. Those residents have had no input in the planning process. Conversely, it seems that the project developers went out of the way to hide the nature of this proposed development until the last possible moment and then limit information spread to the bare minimum. Many have written letters with detailed critiques of the work. In light of the time you must take to consider each statement, I will not reiterate these concerns but write to fully support them. I am grateful for your work as volunteers on this important committee and urge you to deeply consider the nature, implications, and underlying drivers of the proposed “Welcome Home Village.” Voting “no” to this agenda item will allow our community the ability to reach consensus regarding the project in a fair, open, and democratic manner rather than being rushed into a hasty and irrevocable decision that will fundamentally alter the characteristics of our neighborhood. Best regards, Seeta Sistla 1
