Dear Planning Commissioners,
My name is Jessica Goswick, I am a renter in SLO, a lecturer at Cal Poly, and an architect who designs
affordable housing, including permanent supportive housing. I am writing today in support of the
Welcome Home Village proposed at 1463 Bishop St.
I understand that your role is to confirm that this project is aligned with the General Plan, and I know that
you have received a detailed list of reasons why some folks believe that is not the case. I would like to
point simply to the General Hospital Site Special Focus Area defined in section 8.6 of the land use
element. This section clearly states that the county land where this project is proposed will be
designated as "a range of residential uses (Low Density and Medium Density Residential) and will include
the ability to support residential care, transitional care use, and other residential uses consistent with the
adjacent areas."
From this description, we can see that the intent of the land use element is to support projects like the
Welcome Home Village which provides both residential and transitional care use. The location is ideal,
surrounded by county behavioral health services, walkable to groceries and pharmacies, and on land the
county already owns, making it a responsible choice for the community.
Please support this project and help us unlock housing for those who need it most on land the city has
specifically designated for this use.
Thank you,
Jessica Goswick
