Re: City Council Meeting on Tuesday, May 14, 2024
Agenda Item 4.a.
Dear City Council,
My name is ARLENE WINN, and I'm representing NO business in downtown San Luis Obispo. I am sharing my support, in
line with Downtown SLO’s Board of Directors, for Option B of the Parking Rate Study recommendations presented by
Dixon Unlimited. This option offers the most affordable parking rates downtown, addressing the primary concern
expressed by respondents in the Parking Rate Study.
\[OPTIONAL\]
Furthermore, I am in support of this position because… this seems to be the best of all less-than-perfect options that
most of us can live with.
We need to keep downtown a viable option for RESIDENTS of SLO, not just tourists. There are too many empty stores in
the downtown core, mainly because the RENTS ARE TOO HIGH, and shoppers do not want to add outrageous amounts
of money to PARK, so everyone suffers. Years ago, SUNSET MAGAZINE voted SLO the best downtown---easy to park,
walk, shop, eat, wander....wonder what they would say now?
SIncerely,
Arlene Winn (resident since 1995),
widow of now-deceased Prof.Ira Winn, (Urban Studies ), who worked with the SLO city council and others to encourage
long-term city planning that worked for everyone, not just the wealthy...
Sincerely,
XXX XXXXX
