Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. Transportation Committee Chairperson and Members, I will be out of town and can not attend the May 16th meeting. I have lived in SLO for 50 years and have used Lower Higuera St. almost daily. I currently live in Old Town and travel these streets daily. Here are my comments; 1. Madonna Rd. /Higuera This intersection is already congested, complicated and difficult for Ped. Bike and Cars. I am not in favor of the Alt. Design that is proposed due to the likely increase in congestion. Also, the lane drop should be moved further south. As shown it is way too close to the right turn merge from Madonna Rd. As shown it will cause a bottleneck and result in intersection blockage at peak times. 2. Pismo St./ Higuera also Pacific St./Higuera The right turn radius is too tight, especially with a 10 ft. wide lane. Increase the radius and move the cross walk North. (The curb ramp is already shown to be reconstructed.) 3. Barrier placement at right turns from driveways and side streets. Bike Barrier locations leave insufficient turning radius. Example: Recently completed work at Upham to Santa Barbara creates a pinch point, especially if a vehicle is in the left turn pocket. This is a problem, especially for delivery trucks and larger vehicles turning into narrower lanes than these driveways are designed for.
