DISCUSSION: At the 1997 BIA Board retreat, the board adopted the following as a goal: Review the identity of the BIA and consider a new name more descriptive of BIA services. During the course of the year, the name "San Luis Obispo Downtown Association" was approved by the BIA Board of Directors to meet this goal as BIA has been confused with other organizations that bear this or similar acronyms (Building Industry Association, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Bank of America...) Also, it has been noted that the "business improvement" part of the name is confusing and people have been led to believe the BIA takes care of consumer complaints or provides personal business services. FISCAL IMPACT: None to the City of San Luis Obispo; the BIA (Downtown Association) will assume costs for revising its logo.
