Dear City Council, My name is Michael Azevedo and I'm a SLO City resident that has been living here since 2012. I have lived on Palm Street near Mission Prep High School since 2019. I am sharing my support for Option C of the Parking Rate Study recommendations presented by Dixon Unlimited. This option seems to offer the fairest balance to residents & employees of the city of SLO. It will also be helpful to downtown SLO visitors, helping to address the primary concern expressed by respondents in the Parking Rate Study. I am in support of this decision because it feels the most helpful & fair for both residents & workers of SLO City. I also believe it will boost business downtown, as the rates that are currently in place cause a significant barrier to people wanting to visit businesses in the downtown area. The difference between one free hour in parking structures vs having cheaper street parking feels negligible to many people I speak with. I used to work at Luna Red downtown and now cater for Sidecar Cocktail Company on weekends when not working my typical 8-5, so I've heard several guests and employees voice their unhappy opinions about the cost of parking. The cost of street parking for guests to visit me at my apartment has also been increased so significantly that it has caused people to debate on parking several blocks away to try and find free parking. I hear several people park on my street in the evenings saying "this cost is so high I don't want to come back here," and I live in the cheaper zone where it costs $3/hour instead of $4/hour. While $60/month to pay for a parking pass is not terribly expensive in comparison to paying $9/weekday (6pm- 9pm Monday-Friday), lowering that cost to $45/month and the cost of the structure parking permit to $65/month would be a considerable amount for residents and workers of SLO City. I ask that you please consider Option C as the most balanced approach that can come the closest to serving the most peoples' needs as you draft your ordinance tomorrow evening. Thank you for your consideration, Michael Azevedo 1
