Dear City Council,
My name is XXX XXXXX, and I'm a patron of businesses in downtown San Luis Obispo. I am sharing my support for Option
B of the Parking Rate Study recommendations presented by Dixon Unlimited. This option offers the most affordable
parking rates for downtown SLO.
Furthermore, I am in support of this position because the parking rates deter me from wanting to shop in downtown
SLO. I avoid shopping and having to pay for parking. I think it's a great idea to offer a free hour of shopping so, us
residents can quickly pick up items we are in need of without having to pay extra money to park our vehicle. I would
rather shop at Madonna Plaza than shop or eat downtown SLO. Prices on food and retail have already increased so why
charge more for parking? Having to pay for extras like parking probably doesn't bother those in a higher income bracket.
It would be nice if the city government considered the less advantaged and the struggles of middle and low income
people/families when trying to implement changes. What about consideration for the downtown businesses who are
trying to stay afloat? If people don't want to pay high dollar for parking, they won't be shopping or eating in downtown
for any length of time therefore, the businesses struggle. What about students who are on a limited budget? The Cal
Poly students make up a large population in SLO and they should not have to feel the pressures of having to pay more to
park their vehicle in order to shop and eat in the town they call home, away from home.
Please implement reduced parking rates and a free hour of parking in the garages and on the streets of downtown SLO
to aid in the survival of businesses and to lessen the economic pressures of society.
