Re: City Council Meeting on Tuesday, May 14, 2024
Agenda Item 4.a.
Dear City Council,
My name is Rachel Weintraub and I'm the owner of Mr. Michaels in downtown San Luis Obispo. I am sharing my support
for Option B of the Parking Rate Study recommendations presented by Dixon Unlimited, prioritizing lower parking rates
in the downtown area.We hear complaints daily about the increased cost of parking downtown and the aggressiveness
with enforcement. I would also like to see the parking structures revert back to paying for the time spent in the structure
as you exit.
I am in support of this position because I think it is important to our local economy to encourage people to come
downtown and shop. With the parking rates as high as they are, locals especially, avoid coming downtown and choose
instead the convenience of shopping online. If we want to maintain the vibrancy of our downtown and support the
longevity of locally owned and operated businesses it is vital to amend the current parking situation.
Sincerely,
Rachel Weintraub
