Dear ATC Members,
I'm writing to express my support for the Higuera Complete Streets project with the road diet and protected bike lanes. I
commute along Higuera to work from downtown to the Pacific Coast Center (Higuera/Madonna intersection) by bike
daily and occasionally walk it as well. Additionally my family uses this corridor to get to the Elks and to Central Coast
Gymnastics off Zaca lane.
Comments:
Zaca Ln. My two kids go to Central Coast Gymnastics here and we currently drive. The protected bike lanes
would make it more appealing to bike there. However, when leaving Zaca Ln we would make a left onto Higuera
and according to the drawings there is no opening in the protected bike lane on the other side of the road to
enter.
Higuera / Elks Lane traffic signal. Making the left turn across Higuera is very stressful and unsafe and this signal
will make a big difference.
Closing Walker St to vehicles is a great idea. I've had several close calls here. This intersection is uncomfortable
to ride and walk through.
Road diet: please do not reduce the road diet due to 3‐5 seconds delay for drivers entering/exiting driveways.

Higuera/Los Osos Valley Road: option 1 seems fine.
Madonna Road further development: option 1 directional bike lanes on both sides is my preference so that the
eastbound bike lane isn't removed.
Madonna Road/Higuera Street Intersection: option 1 north‐west corner would be a nice change. Not sure about
the south‐west corner. When commuting to work in the Pacific Coast Center I go straight through the
intersection and then get into the existing bike box to make the left turn into the Pacific Coast Center. This
works well as is. The original design (Attachment B) is fine.
Thank you for all that you do!
Regards,
Jesse Englert
