Total Project Cost?* $19,200.00 3. Requested Project Amount * $15,000.00 4. Please provide a detailed description of proposed project/program * The core concepts of the program are: The caregiver serves as a secure base from which the child can explore and as a safe haven to which the child can return for connection in times of stress All caregivers struggle at times to meet their children’s needs Some feel uncomfortable/threatened by their child’s exploration (moving away) Others struggle managing their child’s bids for comfort, protection or connection Some struggle to maintain the bigger, stronger, wiser, and kind stance that defines the secure base and safe haven and instead tend toward being mean or weak when children express their attachment needs Given that attachment security is associated with the caregiver being supportive of exploratory behavior, bids for connection and the need for no-nonsense tenderness, it is important that the caregiver develop the reflective capacity to consider what may hinder or help her/his capacity to respond.   The program chapter 90 -120 minute - sessions are:  1 - Welcome to Circle of Security Parenting 2 - Exploring Our Children’s Needs “All The Way Around the Circle” part 1 3 - Exploring Our Children’s Needs “All The Way Around the Circle” part 2 4 - “Being With” on the Circle 5 - “Being With” Infants on the Circle 6 - The Path to Security part 1 7 - The Path to Security part 2 8 - Exploring Our Struggles 9 - Rupture and Repair in Relationships 10 - Summary and Celebration 5. Describe the community/population the project/program will support.* Struggling Families with young children with severe challenging behaviors. Families seeking help and support and willing to learn life changing strategies. Services offered in English and Spanish   Early childhood education serves as the cornerstone of a child's academic and social development, laying the groundwork for future success in school and beyond. However, recent federal data highlights concerning disparities in disciplinary practices within preschool settings. Preschoolers are expelled at a rate three times higher than their K-12 counterparts, with Black, Indigenous, and multiracial preschoolers disproportionately affected by suspensions. These trends not only jeopardize the well-being of young learners but also perpetuate systemic inequities within our educational system. This grant proposal aims to address these challenges by implementing evidence-based interventions with Circle of Security focused on promoting equity and inclusion in early childhood education.    Objectives: - Reduce the incidence of preschool expulsions and suspensions, particularly among marginalized communities. - Implement culturally responsive practices to create nurturing and inclusive learning environments for all preschoolers. - Provide professional development opportunities for educators to enhance their capacity in addressing implicit bias, fostering cultural competence, and implementing trauma-informed approaches. - Forge partnerships with community organizations and mental health professionals to provide additional support services for children and families facing socio-emotional challenges. 6. The HRC has identified homeless prevention including affordable and alternative housing, supportive services, and transitional housing as the main funding priority. Does your grant request meet this funding priority?* Yes No 7. Which other priority of the non-ranked HRC funding priorities does your request support? Please check the appropriate boxes:* Hunger and malnutrition prevention Supportive physical and mental health services for those in need Services for seniors and/or people with disabilities in need Supportive and developmental services for children and youth in need Services encouraging diversity, equity, and inclusivity in marginalized communities 8.
