We work with individuals experiencing all disabilities of all ages and income levels to achieve their independence goals with an overarching lifework of keeping individuals with disabilities from being isolated. We do this by providing resources, assistance, and targeted programs to help with all details of independence, such as: navigating access to affordable/accessible housing, benefits counseling, transportation, deaf and hard of hearing services, interpreter services, transition services, personal assistance, assistive technology, disaster preparedness, peer support, and so much more. Please provide an executive summary of proposed project/program * The Independent Living Resource Center is a public-benefit, nonprofit organization that promotes the Independent Living (IL) philosophy and its tenets of full access, equal opportunity, and maximum success and self-sufficiency for all people with disabilities. Our services include independent living skills training, aging and disability resources, assistive technologies, benefits counseling, housing transition and navigation services, personal assistance, and advocacy. While much of our work is aimed at ensuring that people with disabilities, especially those who are aging, have accessible homes and have their basic personal and medical needs met, we believe that a large part of continuing to provide services to people with disabilities includes visibility and pride. Both are accomplished when others are exposed to people with disabilities and gain an understanding of issues of access and inclusion. 25.6% of people in SLO County identify as people with disabilities (SLO Community Foundation Data). People with disabilities are often overlooked when it comes to considering and identifying them as members of a marginalized group. Thus, our focus is both to support people with disabilities in equipping them to face challenges and to train leaders and employers to include people with disabilities in their communities and organizations to ensure their success. 2.
