Dear SLO City Council, I am writing to support the approval of staff's recommendation to adopt the energy efficient renovations policy for major residential additions and alterations ordinance (May 21 agenda item 7b). San Luis Obispo has been out in front of combating climate change and taking hard steps to lower our carbon emissions and set up future generations for success. Adopting this ordinance is one more - important - step in the city's climate change leadership. While there are always adjustments that need to be made with new policies, the energy efficient measures suggested in this ordinance are both cost effective as well as contribute to better health, comfort, and resilience for us residents. I applaud the council's continued dedication to putting climate and community resilience in the forefront of city actions.
