Subject: 7.b Introduce an ordinance adop?ng local amendments to Part 6 of the Building and Fire Preven?on
Code and approve eEnergy Efficient Renova?ons policy for major residen?al addi?ons and altera?ons
Date: May 20, 2024
As Senior Customer Account Manager with Central Coast Community Energy, I am delighted to express 3CE's
support for the City of San Luis Obispo’s Reach Code efforts. Local Amendments to Part 6 of the Building
Construc?on and Fire Preven?on Code, 2023 approving the Energy Efficient Renova?ons Policy for major
residen?al addi?ons and altera?ons introduces an ordinance that affirms the City’s commitment to addressing
climate change directly by building a more sustainable SLO.
The City of San Luis Obispo has emerged as a climate leader through the adop?on of your Climate Ac?on Plan
for Community Recovery, including bold ini?a?ves such as Ac?ve Transporta?on, Lead by Example, and
Resilient SLO, and the establishment of community-wide climate ac?on goals of carbon neutrality by 2035 and
zero net-emissions from new buildings by 2020. The adop?on of the proposed code amendment is further
supported by rebates and incen?ves offered by 3CE to our residen?al customers through our Electrify Your
Home and Concierge programs.
3CE governing boards have iden?fied electrifica?on as a strategic goal, recognizing that building electrifica?on
is cost effec?ve and highly efficient, plus provides cleaner indoor air quality and substan?ally lower
opera?onal emissions than buildings that use natural gas appliances. As individuals, the most significant ac?on
we can take to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and enhance air quality is to transi?on from fossil-fuel
appliances and vehicles to all-electric alterna?ves.
3CE is on track to supply 60% clean and renewable energy to our customers by the year 2025, which is five
years ahead of the State of California's goal. Our strategic commitment is to meet 100% of our energy demand
with clean and renewable resources by the year 2030, a full 15 years ahead of the state's goal and in perfect
alignment with your 2035 carbon neutrality goal.
Together, the City of San Luis Obispo and Central Coast Community Energy are poised to achieve our climate
and clean energy objec?ves. We enthusias?cally support this Exis?ng Building Reach Code effort.
Thank you.
