1 Meghan Schmeiser No Swinerton dewatered stormwater offsite at Nipomo through
filtration sock and hoses to gravel sandbags at 7:25am (see
photos for more detail); Kitchell requested ph and turbidity from
Swinerton. Walked perimeter; approved signage in-place. Fence
screen still down in areas due to previous weather events. Temp
fence and screen in-place between site and apartment parking
area. Snow fence in place at south end of apartment parking lot.
See photos for further detail.
2 Tally Richtsmeier No Saw cutting for Dry Utility work took place on Dana Street.
Welding of additional beam length took place on beams 10,11,
and 12. Welding of additional length finished around 10 AM.
Tieback 19 was drilled partially today; however, the air
compressor ran out of diesel, causing a need for maintenance on
the machine. Post-grouting took place on 13 , 15, and 17.
McMahon cleaned post grout tubing.
Some drainage board was installed from beam 10 working
Southward. See daily log photos for current installation
procedures. No deliveries or new equipment was noted.
3 Ryan Stefanek No Swinerton, KITCHELL, and McMahon arrived around 6:45 with no
noise producing activities occurring before 7am. Work continued
with tie back drilling and lagging. Welding was seen on beam
extensions on beams 10, 11, and 12 from 7am to 10am. Other
welding observed was for safety rails and weld plates for the
tiebacks. Other work that is under dispute was the drilling of the
drainage “ports” per RFI 61.1. Drainage mat was also installed
behind lagging on the south end of site that was not to Kitchellls
understanding of the response to RFI 61.1. Kitchell informed
Swinerton via email to confirm if installation was inline with their
interpretation of RFI 61.1.
Due to yesterday’s concern from the retaining wall EOR, a
meeting was held onsite at 11:00am with Earth Systems principal,
IOR, Special Inspector, City Public WorksInspector, and
Swinerton’s superintendent. Earth System’s brought up concerns
with exposed excavation areas under the current lagging.
Swinerton confirmed that their subcontractor was inspecting the
exposed areas daily and the subcontractor was comfortable with
their approach. Other topics discussed were pressure during post
grouting and ensuring that pressure did not exceed the value of
the weight of the soils above the tie back.
Drilling of tiebacks stoped around 1:30 due to the air compressor
running out of fuel. Only 1 tieback was partially drilled today.
Three tie backs were post grouted and lines were cleaned.
No accidents or incidents were reported to KITCHELL today.
