EQUIPMENT ONSITE:Jumping jack compactor
Summary: I arrived onsite as requested & met with Bill Fagundes with the City of SLO. Bill
requested I check the compaction of import sand for the PG&E #5 Box/Inground Transformer. Test
results did not meet 95% compaction. I check the compaction of utility sand for 2" conduit @ 975
Broad St. Test results did not meet 95% compaction. I informed Bill & Madonna Construction of
the failing results. I remained on standby while Madonna backfilled sand to past 963 Broad St. &
waited to compact the material due to lunch time shut down ordinance on compacting. A jumping
jack compactor was being used once compaction began. I check the compaction below subgrade
by 963 Broad St. The sand appeared to be wet. Test results did not meet 95% compaction.
Madonna continued with the compaction effort @ the transformer area & by 975 Broad St. Retest
results did not meet 95% compaction. Bill requested I sample a moisture check sample from a test
location. I sampled from the 2" conduit test location @ 975 Broad & also sampled a bulk sample
from the stockpile @ the lay down yard. I returned the samples to the Earth Systems laboratory for
testing. **The test results from the Earth Systems laboratory for the moisture check was 11.5%
moisture for a comparison to test #5 @ 11.6% which confirms the accuracy of the moisture
readings***
