Zinc dimethyldithiocarbamate
TYPE: Ziram is a carbamate compound used as a foliar fungicide

ORIGIN: E. I. DuPont de Nemours and Company and Bayer A. G., 1930. De-
veloped primarily as an accelerator in rubber vulcanization. Produced today
by a number of manufacturers.
TOXICITY LD5o 1400 mg/kg. May cause skin irritation
PHYTOTOXICITY: Nonphytotoxic except to zinc-sensitive crops such as tobacco
and cucurbits.
FORMULATIONS: 3.5-75Vo dusts, 30-967o WP, .l%o paste,4 lb/gal flowable.
USES: Almonds, apples, apricots, bananas, beans, beets, blueberries, broccoli,
Brussels sprouts, cabbage, caneberries, cauliflower, carrots, cantaloupes,
celery, cherries, collards, cranberries, cucumbers, melons, nectarines,
onions, peaches, pears, peas, pecans, peppers, pumpkins, radishes, squash,
spinach, strawberries, tomatoes, tumips, watermelons, and ornamentals.
IMPORTANT DISEASES CONTROLLED OR PREVENTED: Tomato early
blight, anthracnose, Septoria leaf spot, potato eady blight, celery early and
late blight, peach brown rot, leaf spots, downy mildews, gray mold, rust,
apple scab, shot hole, petal blight of ornamentals, and many others.
RATES: Applied at 3-15 lb actuaUA or l-ll2-2lb actual/IO0 gal of water.
APPLICATION: Apply evenly at a uniform rate. Repeat at 4-10-day intervals on
most crops. Often applied in combination with or altemated with ferbam and
maneb.
PRECAUTIONS: Excessive rainfall may wash this compound off the plants.
Conosive to iron and copper. Remove excessive residues by washing, strip-
ping, etc. Noncompatible with iron, copper, calcium arsenate, mercury,
TEPR and lime compounds.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Repels Japanese beetles and cucumber beetles.
May be applied up to the day of harvest to many crops. Most stable of the
metallic dithiocarbamate fungicides. Does not accumulate in the soil. May be
combined with a sticker if plants are difficult to wet. Compatible with com-
mon fungicides and insecticides.
