The question is below with staff’s response shown in italics: 1) Why are hotels, motels, sorority and fraternity houses all priced less than other types of multi-family housing types for their inspection fees. Can you give me some context as to why it has evolved that way? I know this will all possibly be changing with the fee study, but am curious why it has so far, been this way? (Section copied below.) The fees are based on the time it takes to complete an inspection. This includes the physical inspection plus the review and documentation. Apartment houses are priced at higher unit rates due to the increased time it takes to complete the entire inspection. Sororities and Fraternities vary in size and are charged a flat rate to account for this variation. Several are single family residences that would otherwise not be inspected if it was not registered as a sorority or fraternity. Per City policy inspection fees are waived for affordable housing properties as they are subject to other regulatory and inspection provisions related to their state and federal funding sources.
